Review of the Headway app

Is it worth it?

A while ago, I was driving somewhere, and on the radio, they were talking about phone addiction. It was said that if you spend more than 5 hours/day on your phone, you can be addicted. (I think that we’re not speaking about the kind of addiction with typical withdrawal symptoms like when you cut down cigarettes.)

So I checked it, and guess what? Yes, I had more than 5 hours/day on my phone, and most importantly, a really big part of that was Pinterest and Instagram (but mostly Instagram) – Pinterest didn’t bother me that much, but I know what kind of things I watch on Instagram, and I was so disappointed in myself, and I wanted to change that. I saw many ads for the Headway app.

And if you saw them too, you know that their biggest attraction is the fact that the app is designed like a social media platform, which is designed to attract you with mostly colorful icons.

I must say that I was skeptical at first, but this was the best purchase I made in the last six months. For the following reasons:

  • Micro-learning

This is, in my opinion, the biggest advantage of this app. The fact that you don’t need to read the whole book, although you might miss some fun parts. But for some fun books – I prefer belles-lettres. You have summaries of self-development books with the most important insights from each book.

  • Testing your intelligence type

I recommend doing this as a first if you don’t know where to start – you will take a quiz, and the app will personalize your micro-learning plan and analyze your intelligence type; it’s really neat. But unfortunately, you can’t retake the test, so take your time.

  • Interactive summaries

There are summaries of some books that are interactive with good examples from life, during which you are asked questions so you can see if you understood the book correctly. It’s also a nice break from blind reading or listening.

  • Choose between reading or listening

I must admit that I am a slow reader, so I get bored quickly. Also, I go for long walks with my dog, and instead of listening to music, I can listen to the Headway app and learn during my walks. I’m not saying that I don’t read, but this is a big plus. (Also, you can listen to it while you read.)

  • Highlighting and testing

While you read, you can highlight all different kinds of key points, and later, you are going to be tested on if you remember them.

I know it’s not for everyone, but if you’re thinking about it, I hope that this article was helpful.

If you still haven’t decided, they have a 7-day free trial. Because for an app, a year subscription is quite expensive, so I’ll give you a tip for a discount: if you go and add a year plan to your cart and then change your mind right before making a purchase, you’ll be offered quite a big discount (around 70%), which is much more than the additional discount offered in this little gift box that you have available from the beginning.

Thank you if you got here; it means a lot.

So see you around,
Rézka
